Read the Thai alphabet, one letter at a time
Thai script looks hard at first, but you learn it one letter a day. Lingava has flip cards for every consonant, vowel, tone mark and Thai numeral. Each card shows the letter’s name, its sound and an example word.
- กก ไก่ kaw kàichicken
- ขข ไข่ khǎw khàiegg
- คค ควาย khaw khwaaiwater buffalo
- งง งู ngaw nguusnake
A new Thai word every day
The word of the day is written in Thai script, in romanization with tone marks, and in English. Then you see it highlighted in an example sentence, so you learn how it is really used.
Thai tones you can see
Thai has five tones, and the tone changes the meaning of a word. Lingava marks every tone in the romanization: mid (maa), low (à), falling (â), high (á) and rising (ǎ). That way you learn the right tone from the very first word.
Related words come on days in a row, so a set like greetings, question words or the days of the week is learned together. Here are a few you will meet:
| สวัสดี | sà-wàt-dii | hello, goodbye |
| ขอบคุณ | khàwp-khun | thank you |
| ขอโทษ | khǎw-thôot | sorry, excuse me |
| ไม่เป็นไร | mâi-pen-rai | never mind, it's okay |
| ยินดี | yin-dii | pleased, glad |
| โชคดี | chôok-dii | good luck |
| อะไร | à-rai | what |
| ใคร | khrai | who |
| ที่ไหน | thîi-nǎi | where |
| เมื่อไร | mûea-rai | when |
| ทำไม | tham-mai | why |
